Otama — Terms of Use

Last updated: July 16, 2026

Welcome to Otama. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Skraneix Studios (“we,” “us,” or “our”), the company that operates the Otama mobile application for Android, iOS, and iPadOS (the “App”). By downloading, installing, or using Otama, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. What Otama Does

Otama is a focus and screen-time management app for Android, iPhone, and iPad. Features vary by platform and may include:

Otama is a tool for self-regulation. It works only with your active participation — you choose which apps or categories to restrict, what kind of challenges to require, and how strict to make the rules. The App does not intentionally restrict targets you have not selected, although an operating-system category selection may include multiple apps chosen by the system.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Otama. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your country, you may only use the App with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

If you are using Otama in a region where the legal minimum age for software services is higher (for example, 16 in parts of the EU), that higher age applies to you.

3. License to Use the App

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Otama on devices you own or control, solely for your own non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and the usage rules of the store through which you obtained the App. On Apple platforms, the license is limited to Apple-branded products you own or control and any use permitted through Family Sharing or volume purchasing under the Apple Media Services Terms.

You may not:

4. How Otama's App-Blocking Behavior Works — Please Read Carefully

This section is the most important part of these Terms. Please read it before configuring any locks.

4.1 The App is designed to be intentionally hard to bypass.

Otama's purpose is to help you create friction between yourself and apps you want to use less. That friction works only if it is difficult to disable. By design, the App makes it deliberately inconvenient to remove restrictions you have set on yourself. This is the intended behavior, not a malfunction.

Specifically:

These mechanisms are working as designed when they prevent you from opening an app, even when you really want to.

4.2 You may be unable to open an app when you need to.

There will be times when Otama prevents you from opening an app and you genuinely want or need to use it — to reply to a message, check something urgently, or because you changed your mind about the restriction you set earlier.

This is the intended behavior of the App. It is the same friction that makes Otama useful at other times. You acknowledge and accept this when you configure any lock.

4.3 If you cannot bypass a lock, the App is doing its job.

If a puzzle is too hard, a cooldown is too long, a time window is too strict, or a Committed Mode challenge is too difficult — the App is working as intended. These restrictions exist because you, the user, configured them. They are not bugs.

4.4 Removing restrictions and uninstalling the App.

Recovery options differ by platform, operating-system version, device ownership, parental controls, and the protections you enabled:

Do not assume that uninstalling, revoking permission, restarting the device, or changing settings will always be immediate. Before enabling strict protections, make sure you understand the recovery path on your device. Removing the App does not cancel an active subscription; subscription cancellation is covered in Section 7.

4.5 We are not responsible for consequences of locks you set.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

You voluntarily chose to install and configure Otama. You voluntarily chose the restrictions you applied. The App's job is to enforce those restrictions until they expire, you complete the required action, you disable them through an available recovery path, or the operating system stops enforcing them.

5. Committed Mode

Committed Mode is an optional setting that makes it harder to disable the App's blocking. When you enable Committed Mode:

You enable Committed Mode voluntarily. It exists specifically to prevent impulse-disabling. If you find yourself unable to complete the required challenges, that is the friction working as designed. Review the platform-specific recovery information in Section 4.4 before enabling it.

We strongly recommend you do not enable Committed Mode unless you understand and accept that you may not always be able to disable it quickly.

6. Permissions and Device Access

Otama's permissions and system capabilities differ by platform. You choose whether to grant them, but related features may not work if access is denied or revoked.

6.1 Android permissions and access

6.2 iOS and iPadOS permissions and capabilities

Apple intentionally limits the app and category information exposed through Screen Time APIs. Otama receives opaque system tokens for selected apps and categories and may not always be able to display an app's name, icon, or detailed usage information.

You can change permissions through your device's system settings. Revoking access may stop shields, routines, notifications, or Live Activities from working. Operating-system scheduling is not guaranteed to occur at an exact second, particularly after a restart, low-power condition, force quit, or system update.

7. Subscriptions, Payments, and Refunds

Otama is free to download. Some features require Otama Pro, an optional paid upgrade offered as:

Purchases are processed by the store through which you obtained the App:

RevenueCat may be used to retrieve store offerings, validate purchase status, restore entitlements, and keep Pro access in sync. RevenueCat does not replace Apple or Google as the seller or payment processor.

7.1 Auto-renewal

Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before renewal in accordance with the applicable store's rules. Apple and Google may charge the renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends. The store displays the current renewal price and handles any required notice or consent for price changes.

7.2 Cancellation

You can cancel a subscription at any time through the subscription settings for the store where you purchased it:

Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current paid period, so Pro access may remain available until then. Deleting Otama does not cancel a subscription.

7.3 Refunds

Refund eligibility and processing are controlled by the store that processed your purchase. For Google Play purchases, use Google's refund and support process. For Apple purchases, use reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support. Except where applicable law requires otherwise, we cannot issue store refunds directly.

7.4 Free trials

If we offer a free trial, the paywall will disclose its duration and the price charged afterward. Unless you cancel through the applicable store before the trial ends, the trial automatically converts to a paid, auto-renewing subscription. Eligibility is determined by Apple or Google and may be limited to one introductory offer per subscription group or account.

7.5 Lifetime purchases

A "Lifetime" purchase is a non-consumable purchase granting Pro access for the supported lifetime of the Otama product or service, not for your personal lifetime and not a promise that every future platform, separate app, or independently sold product will be included. If Otama is permanently discontinued, access ends when the product or service ends, subject to non-waivable consumer rights. Where supported by the store, you can restore the purchase using the same store account.

8. User Content

You may add content to the App, including titles, notes, widget content, wallpapers, links, or other user-provided material where those features are available (“User Content”). Except for data necessarily handled by a platform store or service as described in our Privacy Policy, Otama is designed to keep this content on your device.

You retain all rights to your User Content. You are responsible for what you put into the App, including making sure it does not violate anyone else's rights.

9. Intellectual Property

The App, including its code, design, brand, logos, and any content we provide, is owned by Skraneix Studios and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any of it to you.

"Otama" and the Otama logo are trademarks of Skraneix Studios.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the App to:

11. Third-Party Services

Depending on your platform and the features you use, the App may interact with third-party services that have their own terms and privacy practices:

See our Privacy Policy for details about the data these services may process. You must also comply with applicable third-party terms, including your app-store account, device, network, and operating-system terms.

12. Disclaimers — The App Is Provided "As Is"

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. In those jurisdictions, the exclusions above apply only to the extent permitted by law.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Skraneix Studios, its officers, employees, contractors, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to lost profits, lost data, lost opportunities, missed communications, or any damages arising out of:

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from your use of the App is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the App in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) USD $10.00.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, the limitation above applies only to the extent permitted by law, and statutory consumer rights that cannot be waived remain in force.

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Skraneix Studios from any claim, damage, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from:

15. Changes to the App

We may add, modify, or remove features of the App at any time. We will try to give reasonable notice of significant changes. Some changes may require a new version from Google Play or the Apple App Store.

If we permanently discontinue the App, we will give reasonable advance notice through the App, the applicable store listing, or other reasonable means.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will let you know through the App or another reasonable method before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept the changes, please stop using the App and uninstall it.

The "Last updated" date at the top of this document tells you when these Terms were last revised.

17. Termination

You can stop using the App at any time by disabling its permissions and removing it using the controls available on your platform. If app removal protection is enabled, you may need to disable that protection first. Removing the App does not cancel an active subscription.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if:

Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law) will survive termination of these Terms.

19. Severability

If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest of the Terms remain in effect. The unenforceable part will be modified or replaced to be enforceable while preserving the original intent as closely as possible.

20. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any in-App purchase terms displayed at the time of purchase, are the entire agreement between you and Skraneix Studios regarding the App. They supersede any earlier agreement or understanding.

21. Additional Terms for Apple Users

If you obtained Otama through Apple's App Store, the following terms apply in addition to the rest of these Terms:
